about

On June 11, 1948, Albert I, a rhesus monkey, became the first simian in space. Albert I died during flight, as did his successor Albert II. Over the next several decades, NASA rocketed dozens of simians — including Yorick, Gordo, Able & Miss Baker, Sam, Ham and Enos — into the vacuum of space. This album is dedicated to the sixty-ninth anniversary of Albert’s inaugural ride, and to all those thereafter.

Ourang Keski-Pörhöläs and Outang Rogers condemn forced experimentation on non-human animals, for purposes astronautical or otherwise. But as sympathetic bipeds and creators of Borneo-forest-driven techno, we are inspired by the first primates to venture outside the jungle and outward into the cosmos.

So inspired are we that we ourselves wish to transcend the troposphere! Though our journey has yet to transpire, rest assured KKASSA (Kota Kinabulu Administration of Simian Space Aeronautics) is working around the clock to right this wrong. Stay tuned.

Until our ship is ready, Ourang Keski-Pörhöläs and Outang Rogers are content to travel the universe on waves of sound. We hope you enjoy this savage, psychedelic drum-machine excursion.

In addition to the eight tracks collected here, Simian Space includes a short story penned by renowned space monkey expert Bonnie Labrat, "White-Coated Men." Like the album, it is an ode to primal being and primal beings. Together we probe!
